What we do

Founded in 2012, Galashiels Foodbank provides three-day emergency food parcels and support to those in crisis. Local people in need are referred to us by health care and social work agencies from across the district

How it works

The three-day emergency parcels are made up of nutritionally balanced, tinned and dried food – all of which has been donated by the local community

Fresh milk, eggs, cheese and bread are purchased by the Foodbank, using donated funds, and added into every food parcel given out

Who runs the Foodbank?

The Foodbank is run by 6 local church based teams who distribute emergency food parcels three times a week from St Peter’s Church Hall, Galashiels

On food collection days, our volunteers are on hand to provide support, a friendly face or a cup of tea to people who have been referred to us by local care professionals

Activity Levels

Since 2012, the Gala Foodbank has given over 1,000 local people three day emergency food parcels – using food entirely donated by the community

It costs up to £5,000 to buy the fresh food items added to emergency food parcels annually; alongside various overheads such as food storage facilities

How to donate?

If you wish to donate non-perishable food items or toiletries to Galashiels Foodbank please check out their Facebook page for a list of current shortages

All food donations can be left at the following in-store drop off points at Asda Galashiels, M & S Simply Food Galashiels, Coop Melrose, Coop Earlston  or brought directly to St Peter’s Church (during Foodbank opening times) or by private arrangement
